Ahlgrens Bilar – sweet failure

The Ahlgrens candy factory was known for their refreshing Läkerol pastilles in the early 1900s. The factory manager, Gustav Belinky, and his colleagues were very innovative and often experimented with new products. During the 1950s, he was given the task of developing a version of the American marshmallow. The marshmallows were too tough and chewy, and he thought that they had failed. But someone discovered that the failed batter tasted good. According to the story, the chewy candy was named cars because Belinky loved Bugatti race cars. Ahlgren’s »failed« marshmallows became a huge success!
