Apple Pippin

1995-1997

Pippin was Apple’s failed gaming console. It was on the market for two years. The Japanese toy company Bandai manufactured and marketed the console in Japan and the US. They had hoped to sell half a million consoles a year. A simplified version of the Macintosh operating system made Pippin faster and more powerful than most other game consoles on the market. The main reason Pippin failed was the high price. Pippin cost about $600, while the Nintendo 64 console was about $200. In addition to the high price, there was a lack of games, and the Pippin flopped.
