Nintendo Power Glove

1989-1990

The hope was the Power Glove would make virtual reality an actual reality. The actual reality being… it did virtually NOTHING. The Power Glove was the first mass-marketed wearable video game controller, which had retailers dreaming of a green Christmas. Some 600,000 were sold in just six weeks. However, those who found it under their tree quickly fell out of glove love. It was difficult to install and the controls were imprecise. Even though the Power Glove didn’t live up to the hype, it still gets props for the motion control technology that stemmed from it. The massively successful Nintendo Wii game console is a direct descendant of the Power Glove.
