Sinclair C5 – pioneering electric scooter

1985

The British inventor Clive Sinclair was very successful in the computer industry. In hopes of achieving the same success with an innovative electric vehicle, he created the Sinclair C5. It was developed as a cheaper and more flexible alternative to a car. But the C5 was a commercial flop. It had poor battery life, lack of weather- proofing and was frustratingly slow. With barely room for the driver, there was no space for a bag of groceries. However, the biggest problems were the safety issues, since the C5 was so low to the ground it was difficult to see in traffic.
