Modo

2000

Modo was a handheld device that displayed information about a city’s dining and entertainment options, as well as special offers and coupons. The target consumer was young and active with disposable income. The device updated wirelessly every night without a subscription fee. Advertising revenue was supposed to pay for the service. The Modo was a beautiful and very cool product, but with an unsustainable business model. The device was on the market for only two months, and just a day after it launched in San Francisco, the company collapsed. The venture capitalists had left the company to die, as many of them were hit hard by the dotcom crash. (Donated by Hlynur Atlason, New York).
