Sound Burger – portable vinyl player

1983

At the height of the Walkman craze in the early 1980s, Audio Technica debuted the AT-727 Sound Burger, a portable turntable. It was also marketed as Mister Disc. Much like cassettes in a Walkman, the Sound Burger let users play records anywhere… so long as they didn’t want to do anything that made the Walkman so versatile… like walking, since the Sound Burger needed a flat surface in order to play. Additionally, users had to haul around their bulky vinyl and the unprotected turntable left records vulnerable. These days the Sound Burger is sought by audiophiles for its near-mythic sound quality. So despite being impractical, this is one Burger that is both under cooked and well done.
